My Tech EDC

I am an enjoyer of technology and like many I find myself using my phone or tablet usually for a significant amount of each day.

My Every Day Carry (EDC) is the tech “toolkit” that I usually have with me whenever I am taking more than my phone somewhere, and having been inspired by a recent social media post, I thought I would share mine!

From the top, clockwise:

  • Bluetooth Mouse – to use with iPad when presenting. This one happened to be a trade-show freebie, so bonus!
  • 20,000mAh power bank with QC Wireless Charging, USB PD and USB-C connections. I can pretty much charge any mobile device with this.
  • Apple Pencil. Have iPad, like to write. I think this speaks for itself.
  • A selection of USB-C to x adaptors inc. micro usb, USB-A, lightning. This means I only need to carry one USB cable around with me.
  • Speaking of, One USB-C cable. I prefer to use a certified thunderbolt ones these days as I have experienced issues with devices not detecting charge cables when using the adaptors with cheap cables. Lumafield did an amazing article comparing the insides of USB cables last year that covers this.
  • The ubiquitous usb storage key. This one from Sandisk has both a USB-C and USB-A connector you slide out from either end.
  • Airpods Pro. Being in an Apple ecosystem, it would make sense to have a pair right? There is no question their sound quality it not as great as a premium pair of over-ear headphones, but they are pretty damn good for their size and portability!
  • HDMI Input to Thunderbolt Adaptor. This is super useful and with the help of an application turns my iPad into an extra monitor. If you also have headless devices at home like a raspberry pi, you will appreciate this device.
  • Hyperdrive USB Hub for iPad. Provides additional USB Ports, SD and MicoSD card reader, wired headphone port and more notably HDMI Out. I find it much easier to take my iPad to present on using HDMI out, rather than mess around with laptops or USB keys.
  • All this ends up in a tech case made by Bellroy. With plenty of pockets and straps, everything has a place and fits neatly.
